Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) Exam Preparation and Training

About the CSHM Exam

The certification examination measures an individual’s mastery of the body of knowledge deemed appropriate as a result of a Job Practice Analysis conducted by ISHM. Preparation for the examination is best accomplished by mastering the body of knowledge recognized as appropriate for safety managers.

Certification requires achievement of a passing grade on the CSHM examination. Candidates must meet all education and experience requirements before taking the examination. Candidates who possess a valid certification with similar education and experience requirements (such as a CSP or CIH) may be deemed to meet these education and experience criteria, and will not be required to submit transcripts. The examination is based on multiple choice and extended response questions designed to measure the applicant’s knowledge in four subject areas:

General and Business Management
Management Methods
Safety, Health and Environmental Applications
Risk Management and Loss Control

Study Plan

In addition to answering practice exam questions, an important strategy is to study the various notes and references within each section. Also think about downloading and studying the FREE OSHA Training Network online course materials. These activities will all serve to help organize thoughts and awareness of exam subject areas. FYI: There is much too much information on this website to "memorize" so don't try.

Three 150-question comprehensive practice exams are provided. Each of the four areas will include three 60-question focused area exams. Each of the area subsections contain many 10-question quizzes. A well-planned course of study that includes successfully answering the practice questions and assignments is an excellent opportunity to master each subject area.
